HMS LLANDAFF REUNION 2010

                       HMS LLANDAFF

                        REUNION 2010

                            WASH  UP

Thursday 7th Oct 1500 Sailed from Hayes via Epson to take onboard Paul (Packie ) Packham Destination with all the Llandaff fixtures and fittings Eastbourne.

Arrived. at 1730 found somewhere to berth and reported to the duty QM for the issue of station cards

Spent a very pleasant evening in the company of first commish Derick and Denise Ferdinand who also wanted to get down to Eastbourne early due to the amount of traveling .

Friday 8th Oct 0730 Call the hands , rig of the day number 8s , Breakfast and then turn 2 , with the help of the duty Chippy all Ensigns and the Llandaff Banner were in place by stand easy , The bride had gone ashore to burn plastic so myself and Packie decided it was time for a local walkabout and found a couple of watering holes .

Left Packie at around about 1400 doing what he does best trying to trap the local talent behind the bar. !!! (Things never change)

Friday Afternoon saw Plumduffs arriving from all over the country so the Lamps were swinging right through to Dinner.

Robert (Yorkie ) Hardcastle only his 2nd reunion decided to throw his dummy overboard as his name was not mention on the crew list 73-76 in the Llandaff Book  after he had spent 3 years onboard !!!!! oh well Yorkie your just have to settle for a mention in this reunion wash up newsletter !!!!!

After Dinner we mustered in the Junior Rates mess for a few wets and from 2030 we were entertained by Shep Woolley through to around 2300 and I must say it was a great performance.

Soon after, most of us turned in however it was logged by the QM on the middle watch that a rating was spotted moving around the ship looking lost wearing a pair of brown hatter’s overalls.

       Can anyone IDENTIFY this person?

Saturday 9th October 0730 Call the hands, mustered at Breakfast to de brief the night before and it was felt by most that a great night was had by one and all but who was this Rating creeping around the ship in the early hours wearing Brown hatters overalls???? From 1000 shore leave was granted and most of the crew ventured ashore to explore what Eastbourne had to offer , The weather was very Good so most decided on a walk or train ride on the sea front , others hit the shops while certain persons just couldn’t get past the first watering hole !!!!

Soon it was bath and doeby time and clean into Number 1s with the club swinger Ken Rutherford piping Up Spirits and with our usual Rum Rats Ferdie and Paddy  issuing the Tot and wine for the ladies.

1900 and it was Hands to Dinner and what a splendid meal it was, Champagne on Table 4 as it was the Bride and Slingers wedding Anniversary.

After Dinner it was decided to let a couple of the First commission boys have a go at the speeches so first up we got John (Yorkie ) Bolton to do a turn and to follow we had the first ever club swinger Pony Moore give us a few minutes , well done lads , not always an easy job to take on .

Its was then the Annual Ships company dance with plenty of well oiled sailors grabbing their sweethearts and hitting the floor like young 18 years olds however the age thing and drinks had come into effect with feet going one way and the body going the other direction (What ever happened to the Royal Navy’s school of dancing down in Guz ??? )

Soon it was Raffle time which enabled us to raise some cash for the association then it was back to the dance floor for the remainder of the Evening.

Most people turned in at around about 0100 others retired back to the junior rates mess for a night cap to which they regretted the following morning !!!!

Sunday October 10th  0730 Call the hands , well most made it to the breakfast table with a report that once again a sailor was seen wandering around in his brown hatters overalls ???? who is this man ????

1000 and it was time for the short weekenders to depart only for them to wish that they had booked the LWE .

1200 it was time to muster down at Eastbourne’s Royal Navy old comrades club and on arrival we were made most welcome and up spirits soon followed , well it wasn’t long before the HMS Llandaff  choir were mustered on the Q.Deck for the Welsh National Anthem conducted by you guessed L/Sea Thompson, following this a 30 minute sods opera took place leading the way the last commish and coming on strong towards the end the first Commish led by Clubs Pony Moore.

The highlight of the show was the famous 3 man lift and I do believe Clubs Rutherford has this on video so he might think about sending it up to the web site for all to view.

The Afternoon came to an end with Jolly Jack trying to find his way back to the ship for Dinner.

After Dinner is was wind down period after a very busy week-end work up and Ratings were turning in thick and fast.

Monday October 11th 0730 Call the hands and Breakfast didn’t appeal to most after an overdose of booze all weekend, however we suffered it and then it was soon that time to disembark ship for another year.

The sailors kissed and cuddled (Like they do!!!) and the women shook hands!!!

The Bride and I would like to thank you all for the support that you have given to us both over the past 10 years of running reunion , its been great fun meeting up with the past . The time has come for a change of crew and Club swinger Ken Rutherford with a little help from Tommo are running reunion next year in Newcastle so please give them the same support as you have given to both of us and I’m sure they will do just a good of job and it will be a great  success.

Attached to this is a booking form for next year , please book early it makes life so much easier if you know the numbers that you are catering for .

See you all in Newcastle if not before
